Barbie revisits Star Trek for the upcoming new movie!

I've been anticipating the release of this movie for what seems like ages now. I'm interested to see Sylar's interpretation of Spock, and Simon Pegg as Scottie!? How cool is that? ^-^!

What I wasn't expecting, however was that Barbie would be getting in on the act, but it seems Mattel have been on the ball here and produced a new line of Star Trek dolls to go with the new movie.

Now, if only Tonner would hurry up with those Dr Who/Torchwood dolls and someone would make some Firefly dolls we'd be on track ^-^!

The obligatory weekend catch-up post...

Let me see, let me see... *scratches head thoughtfully*

On friday Cookie and I went to town.

The only dolly news of note was the fact that for some reason 'Schuh' have taken to using their own mocked up 'Schuh' fashion dolls in their displays... I would have taken photos but I was about the only person in there so I felt a tad conspicuous ^-^!

Other than that I bought a cool kitschy craft book and real ale and chip butties were enjoyed by all ^-^!

On Saturday Little Miss P went to the theatre with my parents, so that gave Fezz and I ample opportunity to go and see 'Watchmen'. Fezz is a big Alan Moore fan, I would be if I ever seemed to have time to sit down and read... The film wasn't completely devoid of merit, they'd obviously tried really hard, but they'd tried so hard to cram everything in that being such an epic and multiliayerd tale it was never really going to fit. I think it had little chance of working properly as a movie because it's simply not suited to the format. It was nice to see a non-PG rated film for a change though ^-^!

I bet you thought I'd have problems finding a dolly angle on this didn't you? Well actually I can rely on the, frankly brilliant, Liana at Liana's Paper Doll Blog to bail me out with a Silk Spectre paper doll costume ^_^!!! (Clicky here to go there)...

There's also some cool modded Watchmen action fiures to be seen here: http://www.watchmencomicmovie.com/watchmen-custom-action-figures.php

Proceeding on to Sunday... I may have accidentally splashed on a Barbie petite club doll and a bargain Barbie in a damaged box. Yes I am very bad and have no self control!

We also watched the final part of the live action movie adaptation of 'Death Note'. I really enjoyed it, I think I'll have to invest in the graphic novels! L is awesome, I am so tempted to get a Taeyang and make him L! In the meantime I wouldn't mind this guy keeping me company :)

Nostalgia anyone? - 50 years of Barbie video

This video makes me want to run out and buy a Barbie (which I guess is the idea!) brings back memories, I had that 1980s three story house with the yellow lift/elevator ^-^!

Christmas bounty revealed!!!

Yay, I'm finally able to get back online! The festive period has been so hectic I have not had a free moment for any dolly musings!

Anyway, enough chat here are the goodies...

Nooo silly... not those goodies!!! The Christmas goodies!

Here's what I got :)

squirrelaskaylee
My new Primadolly Ashlette Blythe. She has a very strong personality and told me right out of the box that her name is Squirrel (!?)...
Here she is cosplaying Kaylee from Firefly. She will not wear anything else at the time of typing O.O!

Chip also got me this teensy weensy miniature baby doll:

minibaby
And also made all this lovely miniature food that the mini Blythes have been feasting on!

minifood
And although not strictly a doll, I love my Punzel, Satsuma:
Satsuma

I also got a new camera that's not as good but a lot more portable than my other camera and will fit in my handbag or pocket with ease.
Little Miss P got tons of Sylvanian Families stuff as well as:
guitarherodal
The much longed for Pinky Dal

More Serenity stuff...

Okay, after the Kaylee paper doll outfits and rant of earlier I promise not to talk about Serenity or Firefly any more after this post... today anyway =D

I remembered recently seeing a posting about a Kaylee figure on Plastic & Plush that I'd been meaning to share with you and here it is... (click on the pic for the original post):

And if that wasn't cool enough, while doing a search I also happened across these great custom Barbies of the whole Firefly crew at the Serenity Stuff blog (follow this link to see... http://www.serenitystuff.com/2006/01/29/firefly-barbies/ )

Ever wanted to hang Barbie?

Well now you can! And in the nicest possible way with these Hallmark Barbie christmas tree ornaments :)

I'm sure Little Miss P would approve, not sure about my husband though!

Don't adorn your Barbie, let your Barbie adorn you!

As a dolly mom do you feel that we you are constantly serving your girls demands for new outfits?

Well now, with the help of designer Margaux Lange, your dolls can adorn you (although if your Barbie is watching you may want to cover her eyes now!).

I can completely relate to Ms Lange's experience of Barbie as 'An invaluable tool for the expansion of my imagination as a child, ironically, Barbie continues to be such for me as an adult.'

Although of course, in my case this applies to dolls in general although Barbie has played a major part.

It is not surprising then, that Ms Lange continues to find inspiration from her muse today in this beautiful, thought provoking and striking jewellery collection.

To see more (which I would heartily recommend) and to learn more of the artist please visit her site by clickong on the pic :)

Weekend slackness strikes again!

Weekend posting slackness strikes again... only it's not really so much slackness as downright busy-ness (she says, desperately trying to excuse her inaction!).

No really! I was shopping in Rotherham on Saturday, so I do have some new dolly purchases to share. Then today, after church, first Little Miss P decided to order her very first Momoko, 'Wild and Sexy Tune', with the Christmas money from her Grandma, and then we ended up in Meadowhall. I made yet more dolly purchases, not the least of which was the new 'Barbie in A Christmas Carol' DVD. Little Miss P and I just got finished watching it and it's most cute and lovely in a predictable, sentimental and sweet kind of a way :) If you enjoyed the other Barbie movies (which you'll either love or HATE!) this one will certainly not disappoint :)

Good news was, that alone the DVD is £13.99 but as a double box set you can get it with 'Barbie in The Nutcracker' DVD for only £1 more. We bought it from Zavvi but I'm presuming you can get the box set elsewhere, great value :) We also spotted the Christmas Carol Eden doll in Toys R Us and she's very cute, we especially loved her extravagant dress!

I'll reveal the dolly purchases tomorrow when there's enough light to photograph them...
I also have another paper doll half finished, and some paperdoll outfits in the pipeline.

See you tomorrow, Holly xoxo

Barbie cares... or does she?

Barbie cares is an event by Walmart to be run in the US on November the 8th, inviting Moms, daughters and Barbie lovers to bring in their Barbie dolls to be used in a pilot program exploring toy recyclability at participating toy departments from noon to 3 p.m. Furthermore, for each doll collected, Mattel will donate a new doll to a local children’s hospital, up to 100,000 dolls.
That's the info taken from the Walmart website, but in the interests of objectivity an alternative point of view on the event can be found here: http://www.blogher.com/barbie-cares-will-explore-recycling-seeks-blondes#comment-67775

New cute little Barbie Petites... modern Kiddles?

So... Little Miss P and I were watching tv the other day when we happened across an ad for a new dolly. The Barbie Petite ( or Peek-a-boo petites) as they seem to be called in the US.

They actually appear pretty adorable, perhaps they have been taking hints from Petite Blythes and Pullips?

I couldn't find the actual ad but here's a couple of related videos and the relevant section of the Barbie website :)

There's also another vid here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nb4YOA7hXl4
But the poster has disabled embedding so you'll have to click on the link :)

To access the official website click the pic below:

And speaking of Petites I recently discovered that Jun Planning are starting to make Little Pullips again, you know, the mini ones? And if that wasn't enough there'll even be Little Dals!!!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPP! O.O

Bratz vs Mattel the trial continues...

In this ongoing saga the witness taking the stand today was Bratz creator and fromer Barbie designer Carter Bryant.

According to Toy News Online, while admitting that he had signed a contract with Mattel giving them all rights to his creations, he didn't have "much of an understanding" of it at the time, and that employees working on side contracts was commonplace in the company.

Space Age exhibition at Weston Park Museum Sheffield

We visited this exhibition at Weston Park Museum yesterday. The reason I have mentioned it here is because it is an exhibition that tackles science, design and popular culture so there are plenty of toys to see including ET toys, Clangers, Starwars toys, Star Trek figures and also a display of sci-fi and space themed Barbies, Sindies, Action Men and so on. Not a huge exhibition but definitely worth a look and it's free!!!

I would have liked to have included some pictures but the staff wouldn't allow it *tsk*...

Click on the pic below for more details about the exhibition which runs until August the 31st :)
